I graduated from Hunter College School of Social Work in 1984. I received additional training from: The Institute for Psychoanalytic Research and Training; Long Island Dialectical Behavior Therapy Group; and Chances for Children in collaboration with the Institute for Child, Adolescent and Family Studies. I worked as a clinical social worker in the New York City Department of Education for 29 years in various programs with at-risk students and their families. I am a former Assistant Adjunct Professor at NYU Ehrenkranz School of Social Work where I supervised NYU Masters level social work interns. I have worked in private practice with adolescents, adults, couples and families. I have also worked in residential treatment with female adolescents and their families, and mental health settings.
Drawing on my wide range of clinical experience and training, I have developed an eclectic approach to therapy based on clients needs. I focus on developing a safe, nonjudgemental and supportive client-therapist relationship where we can explore the ways in which feelings and emotions are related to past experiences, and how these factors shape inner conflicts, impact thoughts and affect the way we function. Through increased self-awareness and insight, one can learn to modify negative behavior, develop more meaningful relationships, make positive changes, and help reach ones full potential. In conjunction with self-exploration, I incorporate DBT skills and cognitive behavior skills to help manage stress and anxiety and increase coping skills..
